Gone Fishing, Aikens Lake Lodge

I frequently explain to people, and especially to my wife, that it's not the fishing I enjoy but rather the bouncing around in the boat. But occasionally even that gets boring so I have to catch a fish or three to break the monotany.

That explanation of why I spend so much time on the water doesn't cut it with her...or anyone else.

But in 10 days I head out for the kind of fishing I really like...at Aikens Lake Lodge in Northern Manitoba.

It is a beautifull lodge that produces excellent trophy walleye in addition to Lake Trout and Northern Pike.

I usually fish in Lake of the Woods near Sioux Narrows, which is a pretty good fishery unto itself, but pales in comparison to what we will catch at Aikens Lake.

Manager Pitt Turenne has been doing this since he was a child when his dad Gerry owned the lodge. It is extremely well run and I look forward to reporting what we caught.

I will be going up with my son in law who is an equally avid fisher, so I don't have to worry about anyone wanting to come home early.

If you are a person who likes fishing take a look at the lodge. www.aikenslake.com It is a home to a number of business incentive groups as well. If you are interested we can actually coordinate a full program for you as well.

North to Alaska

It was another first. I had to go to Anchorage for a Association conference.

I was looking forward to my visit and it was not at all disappointing.

Excellent restaurants which cater to both tourists and locals alike. King Crab feasts for a king.

A catamarin trip to the foot of a blue glacier.

A flight seeing tour that lands at a base camp near Mount McKinley.

Good people to meet throughout.

It is no wonder Alaska cruises are so popular.

Airlines Passenger Rights Proposal Stinks

Driving back from my cottage in Lake of the Woods yesterday afternoon I listened to a representive of the 4 Canadian airlines talk about their alternative to the private members bill put forward by Winnipeg NDP MP Jim Malloway.

Mallowayintroduced a thoughtful program which had some teeth to it and to the surprise of the airlines, unlike other private member bills by opposition parties, this one seemed to be taken seriously.

So the airlines in an attempt to kill it before it gets much further have suggested they will work with the Transport people to establish criteria for their own bill of rights.

Listening to this speaker, and I am sorry I forgot his name, I thought I was going to vomit. Everything he said was based on 'we'll try'.

We'll try to get the lost luggage to you quickly. We'll try to not overbook or leave you hungry when we keep you waiting.

But iot's all we'll try suggesting somehow they weren't trying before.

Does it make you feel comfortable that they weren't trying to get your lost luggage to you before?

Well now they are going to try.

What a crock of you know what. While Malloways's bill could use some modification it is a far cry more impressive than what the airlines are countering with.

Perhaps we should all be calling our own MP's and letting them knwo we want something beyond, we'll try.
